 Western Trails


Seven Waters Trail

  • Congress Street in the City of Burlington north, adjacent to STH 36, to the Racine-Waukesha County line in the Town of Norway
  • Combination of limestone and asphalt surfaces
  • Most off-road
  • Several bicycle/pedestrian bridges
  • Easy connection points to downtown Burlington, Waterford, Rochester, and Wind Lake
  • Approximately 14 miles

White River State Trail

  • Vandenboom Road in the Town of Dover west to Bushnell Park in the Town of Burlington
  • approximately 7 miles


 Eastern Trails


MRK/WE Energies Trail

  • Layard Avenue, just west to Douglas Avenue (STH 32) in the City of Racine to Six Mile Road in the Village of Caledonia
  • Approximately 5 miles

North Shore Trail

  • West Boulevard and 19th Street in the City of Racine.  South through the Village of Elmwood Park to CTH KR in the Village of Mt. Pleasant
  • Connection to Kenosha County Bike Trail System
  • Paved surface
  • Approximately 3 miles

Racine/Sturtevant Trail

  • West Boulevard  and 19th Street in the City of Racine west to Willow Road in the Village of Mt. Pleasant.  Trail extends west to 96th Street in Village of Sturtevant (ending in close proximity of Amtrak Station)
  • Approximately 3.5 miles

Root River Pathway Trail

  • Extends from the Main Street Bridge on the east to Colonial Park on the west and proceed north to the MRK Trail in the City of Racine at Layard Avenue
  • The trail meanders along the Root River past Case Corp's Corporate Headquarters, through (9) City of Racine parks and connects to Racine County's North Shore and Racine / Sturtevant Trails
  • Approximately 4 miles

Lake Michigan Pathway Trail

  • Follows Racine's Lakefront from the MRK Trail to the North Shore Trail 
  • Connects to Kenosha County Bike Trail System
  • Sights include Downtown Racine, Racine Harbor, North Beach and Racine Zoo
  • Approximately 9.8 miles

Racine County 100 Mile Trail

  • Adventurous 100-mile route that circles Racine County
  • Combination of off-road trails and rural roadways
  • Sights include the Tichigan Wildlife Refuge, Root River, Lower Fox River, Racine Zoo, and S.C. Johnson

 Bicycle Safety Tips

  1. Always wear a helmet to protect your head

  2. Wear brightly colored clothing

  3. Ride a well-maintained bicycle

    • Check brakes and tire inflation regularly

    • Use headlights and taillights at night

    • Have 3-inch reflectors on your back fender

  4. Look out for hazardous surfaces

  5. Obey all traffic laws, signs, and markings

    • Never ride against traffic

    • Ride on the right edge of the pavement

    • Ride in single file

    • Always use hand signals to let cars and pedestrians know what you are going to do

    • Be aware of road traffic

  6. Always lock your bike when it's going to be out of sight
