Family Child Care Certification establishes standards for individuals providing child care in their own homes. This certification allows providers to care for up to three children under age seven without requiring a full child care license.
Benefits of Becoming a Certified Provider
- Eligibility to care for Wisconsin Shares subsidized children
- Access to Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for meal reimbursements
- Referrals from Child Care Resource & Referral agencies
Certification Requirements
To become a certified Family Child Care Provider, individuals must complete:
- Child Care Certification Orientation (offered monthly)
- Background check and fingerprinting
- Tuberculosis (TB) test or screening
- YoungStar participation (required to accept Wisconsin Shares)
- Site visit to verify compliance with certification standards
- Completion of training courses, including:
- Introduction to Child Care Profession (Module A)
- Fundamentals of Family Child Care
- Infant/Child CPR
- Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Prevention
- Child Abuse and Neglect Training
- Enrollment with FIS (Fidelity National Information Services) for subsidy payments
