The Jonathan Delagrave Youth Development and Care Center (JDYDCC) provides a comprehensive mental health program. Allowing the youths to take advantage of several groups such as distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfulness, art therapy, behavioral activation and interpersonal skills. All designed to help youth manage emotions, build coping strategies and improve communication.
Each youth is assigned a mental health counselor upon intake who supports them throughout their stay. Counseling approaches blend techniques from Solution-Focused Therapy, DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, incorporating creative tools like are to foster personal growth and emotional well-being.
This individualized approach ensures youth are equipped with the skills needed for lasting success.
Educational Services
At the JDYDCC, education is a cornerstone of our commitment to youth rehabilitation and development. The JDYDCC provides a structured educational program designed to help youth stay on track academically, recover lost credits and progress toward graduation.
Youth participate in a half-day of focused instruction delivered by a team of three certified teachers and one education assistant. The curriculum emphasizes the four core subjects-math, science, English and social studies-ensuring youth build a solid academic foundation. To optimize learning, youth are grouped by skill level, enabling teachers to tailor their instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
Beyond daily instruction, the program prioritizes credit recovery, offering a vital opportunity for yuth to earn back credits they may have missed. This not only helps youth progress academically but also fosters a sense of accomplishment and motivation to continue their educational journey. for many, this program serves as a stepping stone toward high school graduation and future success.
